Re: Video Game lover's lair....
I'm pretty old school on this, and I miss the arcade version of Pac Man with a real joystick that you could grab instead of a Nintendo-type thumb switch. I grew up with the Atari 2600 and nothing else was quite the same. I didn't play a lot of Centipede, but to this day I use only trackballs on my computers rather than mice.

Wait a minute! You mean that that old Atari sitting in its original box with all those old games is worth something? Naw! Tell me it ain't so! Got the original Nintendo too. Be still my heart! I had no idea that all those old games in the closet had any value.

That I can't tell you...but it does have great sentimental value for many people.

When my neighbor's kids used to come over in the late 90s and early part of this decade, the first thing they'd go for was my old NES (and SNES), not the Playstation or N64.

Re: Video Game lover's lair....
My oldest is now 27. Way back when, it was my Atari and we have pictures of him standing behind me at 18 mos. and watching me play. I played Pong and Missile Command in the shopping center mall in the 70s. Boys got NES and then Super NES, etc. Me? I'm still playing Civilization III (Conquests). I got Civ IV but my pc is 2001 and it runs way too slow at the end of the game.
Both sons have whatever video game system is current right now. It is sobering to think that both got hooked because I played on an Atari all those years ago.

Re: Video Game lover's lair....
The first commercial video game I ever saw as a kid in the 70's was Battlezone, and the sight of the original game console with the rectangular sighting window, the green stick-figure graphics with the orange upper section, and the twin joysticks with glowing red fire button brings back many memories.
Our first home game was Pong, but that got old rather quickly.

I miss my Intellivision! I have a WII now to replace my GameCube (I know XBOX and PS3 have some killer games, but with smaller kids the WII is the bomb) and love my Best of Intellivision game.
It almost makes us for continually getting my teeth handed to me in WII Sports Boxing by my son. Almost

Re: Video Game lover's lair....
The only thing I can say is that my whole family loves to play the Nintendo DSL, on which thousands of games but as well brain trainers etcetera can be played.
Additional it has to be said that we try before we buy first.
On www.all-you-need.nl or even on www.r4ds.eu (dutch sites) they sell Nintendo R4DS apparatus or other flash cards that can be used to download games for free.
First we try them before we buy the originals to be sure not to spend 40 euro's on a game that fails to keep us playing.
