Using a Pink Rosary?
Dear Forum
I know that its not the beads, but the Prayers that are important. That being said, I got a frosted pink and white glass Rosary for my birthday. I chose it, the Crucifix is beautiful, the Centerpiece is a large picture of the Holy Family. The Hail Mary's are light pink frosted glass and the Our FATHER'S are capped white frosted glass. This being said, Im a guy.
I dont know, is it appropriate for a guy to use a pink Rosary?
would it look weird??
Thank you so much

Re: Using a Pink Rosary?
If you like it - use it. Who cares what other people are going to think about a pink rosary.
I suspect most people will just assume you grabbed your wife's or mom's rosary before running out of the house and not have a second thought about it, or that you are using a rosary once owned by a woman who was close to you.
I have a very close male friend who used his mother's rosary for many years. It wasn't pink, but it was very delicate and clearly a "lady's rosary". No one ever thought anything about it.

Re: Using a Pink Rosary?
Like you said, it's the prayers that are important, not the color of the beads! Guys and girls can use absolutely any color rosary they like!

Re: Using a Pink Rosary?
I used to have a coworker who constantly wore colors you would define as feminine. One day he wore a bright pink long sleeve button up shirt. We were talking about where he shops (he's what you would call in today's society a metrosexual), etc, etc. Well more ribbing him for wearing "girl colors." He always said "It takes a real man to wear pink!"
So if men can wear pink and not be ashamed, why not a pink rosary!
As you said, it's the prayers that count. I wouldn't sweat it too much.
God bless you!

Just for an interesting tidbit of color history, prior to WWI pink was the color used to indicate a boy whereas soft blue was used for girls. Blue was seen as being more dainty, thus belonging to young girls whereas pink was a relative of red which was more masculine. It is documented that in some concentration camps, however, pink was used to signify internment prisoners who believed to be homosexual. They were thus marked with the pink color to be murdered. With that, the connotation of pink with boys became quite a negative one. Other historians think the shift between pink and blue was more of a gradual thing without any connection to the war. The switch from neutral clothing to gender specific clothing didn't happen until the 1920's. It's some interesting stuff!
Bottom line, only society says boys can't like pink. If you like pink, then like it! If you think the rosary is beautiful, then it is beautiful!

Re: Using a Pink Rosary?
Also, I think pink is a lovely and meaningful colour for the Hail Mary beads. I know that she is most associated with blue but I've always associated the colour pink with the beauty of the Heavens.
My main(!) rosary is made out of olive wood beads. That's meaningful for me, but I suppose it could possibly seen as somewhat masculine. Anyway, whichever rosary you are drawn to is the one you should use. "Ain't no ones business but your own"

Re: Using a Pink Rosary?
my 15 year old boy "likes " pink and he is very much a guys guy and an athlete.
What is important is that you are praying the rosary and it is none of anyones business.
My son would say real guys like pink!

Re: Using a Pink Rosary?
Real men use and wear pink. Only those men unsure of themselves and their masculinity would fear the color pink.
That being said, I know of a real man's man whose favorite color is pink. He even wears pink formal collared shirts and polo shirts!

Re: Using a Pink Rosary?
This reminds me of my RCIA class when we were discussing the upcoming forth Sunday of Lent and why the liturgical color was pink.
After that was said our catechists told us in a lowered voice that if we happen to see one particular priest celebrating that Sunday we shouldn't remark on his pink vestments unless we wanted to see him get extremely defensive and loudly correct us that the day's color was Rose!
God, give us foolish men security in our sexuality enough that naturally occurring colors don't cause us consternation.

Re: Using a Pink Rosary?
I'm curious who would pick out a pink rosary for your birthday? A little sister, who picked out her favorite one?

The exact same thing happened in my RCIA class last year!!!!!!
But to the OP I think men look great in pink. Nothing wrong with it. Don't give it a second thought.

Re: Using a Pink Rosary?
I'm 16 and I use a pink rosary and have never once heard anyone say anything about it or even gotten a weird look. My mum bought it when she was visiting Lourdes so it is pretty special to me. Dunno why she bought a pink one, but it was a gift from my mum so what can I say.

My urology doctor, a man, seems to often wear pink shirts. He was wearing one today when I went in for a procedure. Have no idea what his religious beliefs are.
I have a rosary with light pink crystal beads kicking around somewhere. Great, now you're gonna make me go look for it.
Edit: and found it in less than a minute. I suppose now I should pray on them before I turn in tonight.

Not at all. Take the color as an incentive to pray for people with cancer.
