Default How to defend my faith?

Hi all-
Recently one of my good friends and I were having a conversation when he asks if I was religious, I proudly said yes I am Catholic. He then went on to slander Christianity and Catholicism. His main argument was that Catholics believe that if you are not Catholic than you are going to hell no matter how you live your life. I felt stupid not having a good reply and the conversation ended that way

My questions are,
"How should I reply in that situation?"
"How do I defend my faith?"
"Is there certain things i should refer to in an argument?"

Thank you all for your help!

God Bless All
