World Youth Conference, Cologne
It has been reported on my local Catholic radio that there are over 850,000 young people and volunteers attending this conference; that Pope Benedict XVI will be visiting the conference tomorrow, and will end with a large mass for the group on Mon. My question is, why hasn't the media been reporting and televising some of the events? Has anyone seen or heard anything re this conference on the secular media?

Re: World Youth Conference, Cologne
Yes, the German radio stations, Deutsche Welle and Bayrische Rundfunk have daily reports and the whole interview with Pope Benedikt XVI.
One reporter was surprised to see no trash left behind on the grounds around the Court Garden in Bonn after a WYD gathering there. He saw kids picking up trash left by others.
Some small protest group is holding counter activities in Cologne who call themselves, "Pagan Fun".

Re: World Youth Conference, Cologne
The AP wire reports are appearing in my small-town, local south Georgia newspaper on a daily basis. However, I've yet to see it on the TV news channels except, of course EWTN. To their credit, EWTN is covering World Youth Day virtually around the clock---much more so than the Ottawa WYD. The EWTN coverage is excellent and captures the excitement among the huge throngs(!!!) of European and American Youth.
And just think---850,000 young peole, or more! It's one of the largest gatherings of young people on the planet, ever. Woodstock 1969 only had an estimated 500,000 young people for a three day concert.
And, the 850,000 people is 20 times more than you'll ever see at a Benny Hinn gathering, Kenneth Copeland revival, Oral Roberts gathering, Jesse Duplantis gathering, et. al., et. al., et. al., et. al., etc., etc.

Re: World Youth Conference, Cologne
I'm so glad EWTN is carrying it on TV. My 78-year-old Mom so enjoyed the coverage of the last WYD she was hoping they would. So it's just not youth that are affected.
