Default Ad linking Romney to death of the wife of a laid off steelworker not accurate

From CNN:
A new attack ad by a Super PAC backing President Obama appears to blame Mitt Romney for a woman's death from cancer after his company, Bain Capital, shut down the steel mill where the woman's husband worked.

(snip)

Here is the actual timeline:

Romney stopped his day-to-day oversight at Bain Capital in 1999 when he left to run the Salt Lake City Olympics, though he officially remained CEO until 2002. Bain Capital shut down GST Steel in 2001, costing Soptic his job.

According to Mr. Soptic, his wife received her primary insurance through her employer – a local thrift store called Savers – and retained it even after his layoff. Soptic's policy through GST Steel was her secondary coverage.

In 2002, Mitt Romney formally left Bain. Sometime in 2002 or 2003, Mr. Soptic says his wife injured her rotator cuff and was forced to leave her job. As a result she lost her health insurance coverage and Mr. Soptic's new job as a janitor did not provide coverage for his
spouse.
I am not a fan of Romney. I don't plan on voting for Romney, as he is, in my book, just another pro abortion, pro homosexual northeast liberal.

Much more of this, though, I may have to reevaluate my position.

Holy Daisy, Batman...the ghost of Tony Schwartz lives! (if you're to young to understand the reference, look it up. It's pertinent)

I certainly hope there is not surprise at the Obama campaign manipulating the truth to get their guy back in the office. That should be expected, as it has been the MO of his entire presidency.

I'm not a fan of Romney either - but I will vote for him nonetheless to make sure Obama is out of there.

Agreed. This is Chicago style politics at it's worst. We can probably expect more of the same in the next few months I also will be supporting Romney, not so much because he would have been my favorite, more so that it will be a vote AGAINST Obama and his evil policies. Lord Have Mercy on our country.

Secondly, what the Obama directive on July 12 actually did was to give states more flexibility in deciding what type of jobs can be included under the TANF guidelines. Seems like a good thing for a state to be able to make those decisions.

My point was that they are both politicians and they are both lying about each other in order to get elected.

I still don't see any inaccuracy in the Romney add about what Obama did. Actually Romney increased the work requirement in Massachusetts while he as governor. He also sent a letter to the senate majority leader to have the law legally changed – something Obama didn’t do.

Erm...the ad is not from the Obama campaign, but from a SuperPac backing Obama.

Ok, so you think that ad is true...well, what about the one saying that Obama is trying to stop the military from voting in Ohio? Pretty much every source has proven that one isn't true.

They're politicians and they lie, it's what they do to get elected.

I don't know anything about that ad. If you know anything that actually disputes what was presented in the ad at hand I would like to see it though.

There is already another thread on that ad, so I will not duplicate. However, I get the sense that anything I did post proving the lie would not be accepted anyway.

I'm sticking with my original point: they are politicians and they will lie and distort the truth to get elected and my only surprise is that anyone would consider that news.

What makes you think that? Is it because it was pointed out that your unsourced assertion didn't support your claim?
