Default Praying the rosary - Do you say the Fatima prayer and Hail Holy Queen?

I know these are optional but do you still pray them?

the Hail Holy Queen is not optional, followed by the "Oh God, whose only begotten Son..." prayer.

The Fatima prayer must also be said after every decade or mystery of the rosary (and it's a beautiful prayer)

What's optional or not required:

adding the "St. ____ , pray for us" after every decade.
The Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary is also optional.

hope this helps

I was just reading the book Catholicism for Dummies and the section on the rosary says they are optional.

My opinion is that the Fatima prayer is optional and could quite possibly be fulfilled. The prayer was added for the conversion of Russia.

As for the Hail Holy queen or Salva Regina, from every pamphlet I have ever seen this prayer is required at the end.

Either way, praying the Rosary in your way is a prayer.

Prayer is personal and so I would not get too carried away worrying about what is or is not "optional"...
Growing up we prayed the rosary after supper during lent. We never prayed either the Fatima prayer or the Hail Holy Queen.
Now - I do use the Fatima prayer but not the Hail Holy Queen...

Peace
James

I do! I think they are lovely prayers! Although I didn't realize the Hail Holy Queen was considered optional. It is the perfect crown on the Rosary, if you ask me.

I pray the Hail Holy Queen, but not the Fatima Prayer.

But honestly, now that I know the Hail Holy Queen is optional, I may drop that once in a while. I never memorized it so, I always have to scramble to look for it written down, so I can say it.

We were told in RCIA that the Hail Holy Queen was at the end of the Rosary, Fatima was optional, although, I have noticed when I pray the rosary at daily mass, it is always added between decades. We were also told that it doesn't really matter to add the optional, but it's really a matter of the fact that you are praying. So with that said, "Let's all Pray the Rosary"!

Last year RCIA taught us to pray Hail Holy Queen.

Slightly off subject, but we all bring somewhat different traditions.
I have been encouraged to pray the Catholic rosary, but I usually end half way through as I loose 'connectivity' with the prayer.

Old habits are hard to break.
as a former Lutheran, I still pray the pre-trent version.
Not much difference, but it allows me to 'stay connected' concentrating on prayer.
and, the whole is takes about half the time if properly said and not just skimmed over quickly.

Me as well, i try to stay connect and not quickly recite, which is quite difficult, especially when im driving. When i was little, the ava maria and the hail holy queen was a must. And at the end the litany(spel?) too
