Default All of New Orleans to be evacuated now

link

In New Orleans, officials ordered all refugee centers, including the Superdome, to evacuate because water was pouring into the city through a broken levees.

Officials in the Gulf Coast city of Biloxi, Miss. said they feared that hundreds of residents perished after being trapped in their homes when a 30-foot storm surge came ashore.

“It’s going to be in the hundreds,” Biloxi city spokesman Vincent Creel said of the expected death toll.

Oh my goodness, Marie! The news from NO is getting more and more frightening. We have had city-levelling floods up here including the tornado a few weeks ago, but none on the scale of New Orleans. I hope the rescue workers and neighbours can get those folks to high ground quickly and that there is no disease resulting from the flood waters.

One doctor said disease is already starting to show up. It's bad...really bad. People wading through raw sewage, and all manner of swamp life.

I haven't even wanted to think of the swamp life that would now be able to make it through the city. The city itself is so near swamps that it can't be good. I am thinking alligators and snakes.

We need to pray.

Martial law declared.

The city's Twin Span Bridge is "totally destroyed."

80 percent of the city is underwater.

No electricity in the city for four to six weeks.

Natural gas leaks were also reported.

I see a cholera and perhaps a typhus epidemic, possibly malaria breaking out in the the areas. I can also see that the wildlife being a big problem namely the gators. We must hope in God to do what's right for these people in need. Pray fro them.

The American Red Cross has launched the largest natural disaster mobilization in its history.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard Web site, at least 40 aircraft and 30 ships were put into position ahead of time to help in post-storm searches and rescues. Seven helicopters were aiding in efforts in New Orleans.

"There were small fires all over the place. A little bit of, you know, gasoline and oil coming out from gas stations, etc. Power lines down, trees split in half, fallen down.

In Mississippi, U.S. Highway 90 was underwater.

A National Guard spokesman in Arlington, Virginia, said more than 125,000 forces had been activated in 19 states and Washington, D.C., to help local agencies with traffic control, security, distributing food, and search and rescue.

2,500,000 customers were without power.

Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco ordered re-entry routes to be guarded by state police, saying it was too dangerous for many people to return home.

More than 1,600 Mississippi National Guardsmen were activated to help with the recovery, and the Alabama Guard planned to send two battalions to Mississippi.

Our church internet prayer chain is looking for volunteers to commit to saying a rosary a day for the victims for the next week. Drop me a private message if you'd like to join us

I think Sonny reported in yesterday that he was okay. Brotherhrolf hasn't been heard from but lives in the same area as Sonny. JLW (?) has been checking in on his laptop but said his batteries were gone and he had no way to recharge them. Haven't heard from or about the others.

I have been watching CNN...(something I never do), but they are doing yoman's work of reporting. The fly over cameras of rescues and people on roofs are mind boggling. A whole prison full of prisoners at the top of prison roofs waiting for help and rescue.

I thought I would have a cardiac watching the rescue of one family, toddlers, babies, a dog, all being lifted one at a time. Watching the little ones going up in that basket scared me to death. I was so afraid they would try and stand up, as they are too little to know the danger. I think I did a whole rosary for them in a flash.

I had heard that hospitals in the area are bracing for deaths from snakebite and alligator attack. The flood water carries ants, which I know in TX can be biting little buggers, I wonder if it's the same in LA? It's truly frightening and primitive.

Marie one thing I have wondered about too is the evacuation of hospitals and senior housing and rehab centers. I wonder who too all of those people.

I had never thought of the prisons. This is really very monumental. There is no end to the trouble that could be. I wonder if other prisons had to take in prisoners. How do you transport a whole prison?
