Re: Book 01: Sect. 03: Chapter 06: The Proving of a True Lover
A true love for God means to put complete trust in Him. This trust must include turning to God at the first sign of temptation and adversity. How many of us do this? Not many, and that includes me.

Re: Book 01: Sect. 03: Chapter 06: The Proving of a True Lover
"All is not lost, then, if you sometimes feel less devout than you wish toward Me or My saints. That good and sweet feeling which you sometimes have is the effect of present grace and a certain foretaste of your heavenly home. You must not lean upon it too much, because it comes and goes."
It is actually when the good feelings are gone that we often grow the most.

I like the way this is written - Christ & His Disciple dialoguing.
There were several quotes I liked, but this was my favorite: "A wise lover values not so much the gift of the lover, as the love of the giver."

Here i have been a member of this club for awhile, but after this book started. I have been waiting for the second one, so i would not start behind. This, after much prayer on this subject, i have found.
It is so beautifully put, and firm, yet guides with truth. I to like the text setting with Christ and the Deciple....it is like he is talking to us.
Printing the quotation of rebuking, i will use this! I just wonder if this book can be addressed from a person that wants to START it?
Antiaphrodite, you know me and a lot of my struggles....and the feeling of being lost. Does it matter if i start this book late?

Re: Book 01: Sect. 03: Chapter 06: The Proving of a True Lover
I found this passage rather soothing. Jesus is asking us to try to keep up the good fight, but to not be so hard on our selfs when we fall. That some of the bad things that befell us are not our own doing, but from the Evil one. Thus don't curse and condemn yourself, but recognise that these are temptations set before you and to keep your eyes on Christ. In my current struggles, this uplifts my spirits.
"For these are evils which you suffer rather than commit; and so long as they displease you and you struggle against them, it is a matter of merit and not a loss."

Thank you....as it is hard when you first discover what sins are truly sins that can cause your not entering heaven. I see so much in the last few months, that have opened my eyes. It also shed light on many things i THOUGHT i was in controle of....but it was Satans power over me unknowingly. Even for a girl.

Re: Book 01: Sect. 03: Chapter 06: The Proving of a True Lover
It is not an illusion that you are sometimes rapt in ecstasy and then quickly returned to the usual follies of your heart. For these are evils which you suffer rather than commit; and so long as they displease you and you struggle against them, it is a matter of merit and not a loss.
This verse gives me great comfort because I suffer these all too often and feel, (I guess falsely), a loss.
