Brad,
I saw the camerman who was talking on MSNBC; he was far more eloquent than any reporter I've heard.

I have to admit that the scene at the Convention Center is utterly disturbing. I'm not saying that the government could have done more, but I do wonder how that place apparently fell through the cracks. I can't imagine how bad things must be for a place with upwards of 10,000 refugees to "get lost" for 3 days.

This isn't meant to point fingers at all. If anything it's to point out just how desperate things are. I have no doubt that aid is on its way to the Convention Center now that we know, but the fact that this place was off the radar is terrifying.

It is.

Radio communications have been down. The power grid is down. The emergency generators are under water. That people discovered the Convention Centre refugees is a miracle.

They need to get the people out of there before the population starts to get sick. Their time is running out.

This is in sharp contrast to what I saw, what the Mayor thinks and what the President said this morning. He specifically mentioned the convention center and said the results were unacceptable.

I agree.

Finger pointing and blame game are after the fact. I have written this out of distress at this moment that more needs to be done NOW - during the crisis.

I am not sharing in the thanks. Sorry. I meant what I said.

These are excuses for not doing things, not solutions.

I gave a solution in the first post of this thread.

Discovering tens of thousands of refugees at a convention center location on the river is no miracle. It is obvious via plane or helicopter.

As the president said this morning, these results are unacceptable.

The first major groups of troops on the ground were shceduled to arrive today. That is outrageousely late.

I have been watching the non-stop coverage of Hurricane Katrina since it started(checking all channels). It wasn't until yesterday that I even knew that anybody was even at the Convention Center! I thought they were all at the Superdome. As we speak, help has arrived in the way of FEMA with truck convoys, each pulling a boat and delivering water, food and supplies, Fire Trucks from all over the Country, Military Convoys, School Buses headed to the Superdome & Convention Center. Large Choppers that are evacuating Hospitals. Food & Water is being delivered to those places. It just takes time to coordinate the effort and with communications down, it has been chaotic.Law & Order has arrived!

Absolutely late, but let me just say it looks like they're coming in force! Late, but it's sure a good sight to see. It's such a relief to know that the big help is FINALLY arriving.

We have a lot of lessons to learn from this, no doubt.

Troops are your last resort. It takes time to mobilize them. Your 1st resort is to evacuate. Line up your busses and organize an orderly evacuation. ... probably not the time to get into this though... still to early.

Honestly, I don't care about the troops, I'm talking about the food and transports. They're rolling in with an 8-mile long convoy!

That should have been happening two days ago, IMO. Troops are secondary.
