New Orleans Mayor's response!!!!
Has anyone seen the coverage of the New Orleans Mayor? He has been using expletives and taking the Lord's name in vain (and they are not censoring on cable news).
http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/09/02/kat...gin/index.html
I can understand why he is frustrated but is this how leaders should be acting?
Is anyone else surprised by this and what are your thoughts?

Re: New Orleans Mayor's response!!!!
I think it's much worse than people think to take the Lord's name in vain. I've started using this as a sort of warning. If an entertainer or someone uses the Lord's name as a swear word it's time to change the channel.

Re: New Orleans Mayor's response!!!!
Yes, I read what he was saying and I don't agree with it. He's loosing his composure. I don't think a person in public office should behave like that on public media regardless of the situation. It's offensive, childish, and frankly, is of no help.

Re: New Orleans Mayor's response!!!!
I think it gets people even more excited (in a negative way). Sounds like mob mentality to me.

He lost his city. We probably don't know the half of it. Cut him some slack. He probably feels very guilty.

Re: New Orleans Mayor's response!!!!
Since he's in the public eye, he should compose himself before speaking on the air. But let's face it, we haven't walked a mile in his moccasins. Pray for him, and for his city.

Yeah, I'd say his blasphemy likely doesn't fit the requirements for culpability at this point. Unlike many of the politicians and talking heads we've been seeing the past few days, he actually lost his home in this along with the victims.

I completely agree with you that he is under a tremendous amount of stress. I am praying for him and the city. That being said, all I am saying is that if I lived there I don't know that I would feel very comforted by the person in charge. Leaders are there for a reason, to guide those who have lost their way. I sincerely don't want to come off as being too harsh, but I am surprised by his public statements.

I don't think using the Lord's name in vain is justifiable in any situation. It would have been much better for him to use his media exposure to ask the world to pray for all the people affected by this disaster and to tell people that it's times like this that makes us realize that we need to turn to God and ask for help. Not to start yelling and pointing fingers and saying "***damn". If he wants to do that he can do it behind the scenes with the very people he has a problem with. Of course, minus the "***damn" statement.

Re: New Orleans Mayor's response!!!!
It is interesting, but to read this he sounds relatively calm. When he is speaking on tv or radio the words take on a completely different tone.

Re: New Orleans Mayor's response!!!!
Maybe the mayor is frusterated. After all his people have been without food, water, and other needed things such as baby formula for five days.
Maybe a few expletives are in order, after all the situation is extremely serious. A person can only go so long without food and water. How long can a child go without food and water?

Re: New Orleans Mayor's response!!!!
This was the first time I actually got to hear the whole thing through. He actually seems much more calm when I listened to the whole thing through. If not calm, at least collected and less panicked.
When you hear it in soundbytes it makes it seems like crazy outbursts, but when you hear it in a 12 minute interview it seems that his thoughts were actually rather cohesive and coherent, if very frustrated. I was pretty annoyed at his response when I was just hearing soundbytes, but now he seems rather reasonable.
I dunno, maybe it's just me, but hearing this interview all together raised my respect for him; it sounds like he has been on top of things at least after the storm.
