Can there be a Catholic funeral without the body present?
I would like to be buried in a plain pine box (or even a shroud - the Trappists do it) and then interred without being embalmed. I would like to be buried in a green cemetery. Because the body would need to be buried within 48 hours of death, could I still be given a Catholic memorial Mass after I am buried if one cannot be arranged before? I am a devout Catholic but have very little resources (only Social Security) and also believe this is the right thing to do to preserve the planet and keep the body intact.
