Mary Landrieu
Mary Landrieu: I'll Punch Bush, 'Literally'
Sen. Mary Landrieu threatened the president of the United States with physical violence on Sunday, saying that if he or any other government official criticizes New Orleans police for failing to keep civil order in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina - "I might likely have to punch him - literally."
"If one person criticizes [our sheriffs], or says one more thing, including the president of the United States, he will hear from me - one more word about it after this show airs and I - I might likely have to punch him - literally," Landrieu railed on "ABC's "This Week."
It is illegal to threaten the president with physical violence.
The Louisiana Democrat blasted Bush for neglecting the New Orleans levees, and demanded that he stop using the disaster for "photo-ops."
"The president came here yesterday for a photo-op," Landrieu charged, while surveying the disaster scene via helicopter with "This Week" host George Stephanopoulos in tow. "He got his photo-op but we are never going to get this fixed if he does not send us help now."
Landrieu also blamed Bush for cutting funding for levee improvement, before bursting into tears on camera.
In recent days, New Orleans officials have been criticized for bungling evacuation and rescue efforts. One of those officials, Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu, is Sen. Landrieu's brother.

Re: Mary Landrieu
On another thread, there's a statement that the mayor of NO stated, twice, that the CIA might "do him in." I think what we're hearing are persons who have been under extreme, extreme stress, wanting to help so many and feeling so frustrated and powerless to do so, and being called to make so many decisions that the term "overload" can't even come close.
We're do, indeed, need to keep these folks in our prayers for quite a long time.

Re: Mary Landrieu
Plenty of people deserve some blame, but that is secondary now. It does no good, we need people out there doing their jobs, getting things in order. Our leaders need to lead and not blame right now.

Re: Mary Landrieu
Bush would be critized one way or another. If he didn't take the photo-op, someone would say he doesn't care and is spending no time doing anything. If he does go there, then someone will say he is doing it as a photo-op to take advantage.

Re: Mary Landrieu
Let's not get in the gutter here folks.
By the way it is illegal to threaten the president with physical violence.
In recent days, Louisiana officials have been criticized for bungling evacuation and rescue efforts. One of those officials, Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu, is Sen. Landrieu's brother.

Re: Mary Landrieu
I just listened to her. She was praising the Sheriff for evacuating the prisoners from their jail before they broke out and harmed people. The Sheriff deputies had to go through water to get them out.
She broke down a little later, she was going over the scene in a helocopter with an ABC newsman. Explaining to him what he was seeing and speculating on how many were dead inside the ruined homes.
She was looking at her destroyed city.
She wants help from Bush. I don't blame her, I would to.
Let what she said pass. It wasn't that bad. I am sure Bush would let it pass. I would not be surprised if he is already on the phone with her.
