Great article by Anne Rice on N.O culture and aftermath of Govts response

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/04/op...gewanted=print

Heartbreaking.. and full of anguish.

I notice she takes a shot at the Pres and supports the mayor. Remember, that Rice is someone who has publicly rejected her Catholic faith.

As far as I know she is Catholic now. She fell away, but then came back. She is still Catholic now. But of course, she is a 'cafeteria' Catholic. However, I think it's a cheap shot at her. She's one who had a great deal to do with me becoming Catholic, her writing on the beauty of Catholicism stuck with me, and still does to this day now that I am a Catholic going on three years.

Her political agenda is well known, but if you say she has refound her Faith and was somehow instrumental in you finding yours, that's great. The point is her article was moving until she got into finger pointing.

Political agenda or no political agenda, Catholic or not, she is right on in this article.

Right on..its amazing that to appreciate an article around here, one must know whether the place it came from is progessive or not and whether the author is an upright Catholic. Really sad...

I've always admired this lady's writing skills, and still do. I can't say as I blame her for pointing fingers....this was a joke of a disaster response. She's also right when she says "You want Jazz Fest, you want Mardi Gras, but when we have trouble you call us Sin City and turn your backs". I, personally, don't like either festival. However, I know a lot of people who really, really do.

I think the folks of N.O. have darn good reason to be annoyed. I love this country, I respect this president, but man....talk about dropped balls.

The author rather publicly on 60 minutes castigated Catholicism some years ago and pointedly said he was rejecting the Catholic faith. I'm glad she has found her bearings since that time, if that indeed is the case. What is sad is that so many Catholics support pro abortion CINO politicians who have enabled the culture of death and so many others, including Catholics, accept people or opinions at face value despite a demonstrated agenda and history.

Rejecting her Catholic faith is very irrelivant to the article and the condition of The City of New Orleans since the hurricane. It's not as if she is condoning something in her article that the Catholic Church is against.

New Orleans is a staging city for most of the commerce that travels along the Missisippi River. New Orleans is vital to the commercial refining of oil production.

New Orleans is vital to the fishing industry that provides seafood to most of the United States.

New Orelans is full of a rich history and multi-cultural expressions of a melting pot, much lke tAmerican itself.

New Orelans will be back stronger and better than ever.
