Default Prayer and faith life falling apart.. help me.

I feel that I have a bi-polar relationship with God. Some days I am super religious, some days I don't feel like being so and want to walk away from the faith (funny coming from a guy who has been telling his "catholic friends" that he is discerning.) I just find that it is taking more and more effort to become more consistent.

I am in a slump at the moment.. stopped going to mass frequently (used to go on a regular basis) at my university campus for daily services (as early as just a week ago actually), stopped having the motivation to say the rosary, used to be an avid propogator of the Divine Mercy chaplet, stopped my regular visits to the Blessed Sacrament, started falling into sins of the flesh again and STOPPED hoping in the Lord. My view of the Lord has started to become adversarial and hostile (the vengeful, angry God) instead of seeing him as OUR LOVING FATHER.

Help me please.. I have been a prodigal son for FAR TOO MANY times to count.

a young man experiencing a spiritual slump...

Templar Knight,
Take it easy today, and know that I'm praying the rosary for you tonight. Will even throw in a Divine Mercy Chaplet
Just surrender to your doubt and lack of motivation. Lay them at the foot of the Cross and just rest your heart and mind a little.
I ask that the Holy Spirit send you the Peace of God.

I hope this helps... i've found myself in similar situations all too often during my short life. for years, i would fall into trhe same pattern as you... and for years, i had completely forgotten reconciliation. once i was confirmed, that was it for me.... recently, after falling into that pattern once again, i found myself going to confession (no particular reason why). Over 10 years had gone by since my last one, but i found myself going nonetheless. I confessed my weakness, and it was like a fog had been lifted. i'm more in love with Holy Mother Church now more than i have ever been. whenever i feel myself slipping, i feel a call to confession, and each time, i feel renewed. i hope this helps you in the similar manner it did me.... God bless.

Offered a psalm for you today at Evening Prayer

O Lord, hear my voice when I call; *
have mercy and answer.
Of you my heart has spoken: *
“Seek his face.”

It is your face, O Lord, that I seek; *
hide not your face.
Dismiss not your servant in anger; *
you have been my help.

Do not abandon or forsake me, *
O God my help!
Though father and mother forsake me, *
the Lord will receive me.

Instruct me, Lord, in your way; *
on an even path lead me.
When they lie in ambush, protect me *
from my enemy’s greed.
False witnesses rise against me, *
breathing out fury.

I am sure I shall see the Lord’s goodness *
in the land of the living.
Hope in him, hold firm and take heart. *
Hope in the Lord!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son *
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, *
and will be for ever. Amen.

So teach us to number our days,
That we may present to You a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12

Dear Eternal Father, we praise and glorify you as the creator of time and of life. Thank you for the life that you have given us. Please show us how to put to good use the time we have remaining in our lives. Let your spirit guide and direct TemplarKnight1 to the path where he will find contentment and peace, as he puts his trust in You and Your Word.
Please forgive us our sins.
In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Lord, show TemplarKnight your loving Spirit, that he might be emboldened to always seek you with the virtue of joy with the graces you send. As he bears his cross, send him a Simon, as you were sent while carrying your cross. Minister to him with comforting angels. Mary, pray with us. Amen.

I hold you in my heart and and hold you up to Our Lord that He grant you peace and a growing understanding.

It may surprise you to know that what you describe is rather natural in the faith life - even for one discerning (the priesthood?).

Seeing the threads you have created today and some of what you are struggling with, I highly recommend that you get a hold of a copy of the book in my signature. I think that it can be of great help to you in several ways...
1) It can help you "cut through the underbrush" that can sometimes obscure our way and our view of Christ.
2) It can give you a better, more proper and integrated, understanding of sin...
3) It will show how even great saints suffered through doubts, spiritual aridity and other trials.
4) It can help your prayer life....by helping you to focus your prayers and understanding the road you are traveling.

Hang in there brother.

Peace
James
