An ejaculatory prayer is a short prayer, usually just one sentence, which can be said at any time.

My favorites are the prayer revealed by our Lord to Sister Consolata Betrone: "Jesus, Mary, I love You! Save souls!";

And a prayer taught by the angel at Fatima to the three children: "My God, I believe, I adore, I trust and I love Thee! I beg pardon for all those that do not believe, do not adore, do not trust and do not love Thee."

The book "Jesus appeals to the world" shows us a beautiful way to live in the continuous act of love - A little way for all souls.

JESUS, MARY,I LOVE YOU! SAVE SOULS!
Sr. Consolata, pray for us

Well, a priest taught me this in confession when I'm plagued with my intrusive thoughts and doubts "Jesus Christ, Son of the Almighty God, have mercy on me, a sinner." Sometimes I find myself saying "My soul belongs to God." throughout the day over and over...

A less awkward-sounding synonym is "aspirations."

My favorite is really quite simple: "Jesus."

"Blessed be the name of the Lord" whenever His name is taken in vain.

Too bad Catholics nowadays don't even know what "ejaculatory prayers" are. Another fatality chalked up to the Spirit of Vatican II. Add that loss to "Forty Hours Devotions, Rogation Days, Septuagesima, Ember Days, and Introits/Graduals/Proper Antiphons", and you see the slow dissolving of Catholic customs that have helped form centuries of Catholic culture.

I think it's more a case of not knowing the term "ejaculatory prayer". That doesn't mean that most Catholics nowadays don't have any or don't do them, we just maybe didn't know that was the official term for them. Do try your best to not be too condescending to "today's" Catholics. Some of us weren't around pre-Vatican.

I too say "Blessed be Your name, oh Lord" whenever I hear someone take His name in vain.

I often say "O Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in Thee" and "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee." I also find myself saying "I love God" at times as well.

I should start doing this when I hear His Name taken in vain.
