Austin needs bus drivers!

Bus Driver Positions Open

Displaced bus drivers may catch a break in Austin. Many have applied for the 43 positions currently open. AISD Superintendent Pat Forgione says that 10 more positions could also be created to handle new routes for evacuees starting school.

New Orleans bus driver Ocie Wright says that he's been driving for 15 years, and this job would be a perfect fit. A bus driver's starting pay in Austin is $11 an hour. Benefits include health insurance, retirement and paid days for training plus personal leave, sick time, and holidays.

They have been short of drivers for a few years now, I believe.

There's also a TON of construction and demolition going on in Austin right now. I don't know if any of those companies are hiring, as that's not my line, but one would think they are.

But as for the busses--I take busses now and then and have heard drivers discuss their personnel shortage.
