Looking for game players in Rochester, NY
Hi,
I'm looking to start a playgroup for a Christian RPG called Holylands in my area. You can check it out at www.holylands.net. Also, anyone have any ideas to drum up some support locally? Any help would be appreciated.
God Bless,
Adam

Good luck. I've been searching for non-psycho role-pleyers in Rochester for 2 years with no success.

I sort of collect RPGs and I am in the area until January when I leave for Houston. I would be interested.

I hate anything the uses character classes. So while I own D&D/AD&D 1E and 3E, I'm not a fan.
I'm a fan of (and own): - Fudge (free! http://www.fudgerpg.com/ )
- Dekahedron (also free, but the website is down)
- GURPS (but not the new 4th Edition)
- Traveller (LBBs and TNE)
- Various Star Trek RPGs (LUG rules)
- Paranoia
- DragonQuest
- Tunnels & Trolls
There's some others I own, but never got to try: - Roll out the Guns!
- SpaceMaster
- HackMaster
- Big Eyes, Small Mouth (1st Edition)

The original Paranoia was awesome. I haven't really checked out the new one.
And I hear that there is a Deryni Adventure Game out for fudge, that is one I want to check out as I loved the novels.

There is. I used to be active on the Fudge community. In fact, I did some writing for Grey Ghost in a project that was later cancelled.
I like the Fudge system because it's everything I like in an rule-set: rules-light, skill-based (no character classes), easy to understand, and cheap. It has a couple of problems (proprietary dice, so open-ended that a new GM can't just pick up the game and run with it, etc.), but overall it's good.

That's too bad, I was hoping you would get more of a response to this.

Really? Looking for the sub-set that's the intersection of the Rochester and Role-Player subsets of the CA Forum population? I was amazed that there were 3.

I was not expecting a lot but was hoping for a lot. If anyone is even intested in checking it out let me know. No experience is necessary.

Re: Looking for game players in Rochester, NY
I'm not in Rochester, but one alternative that helps transcend the geographical limitations is play-by-post--considerably slower than tabletop, but allows for much more in-depth role-play.
As president of the NPO running the site, I'll go ahead and suggest: PlayByWeb

Re: Looking for game players in Rochester, NY
Hi fellas,
I just checked out the holylands website, and I notice that it is set in the church of "medieval times". I am really curious about how the system adresses the Catholic/Protestant interaction, or is that just left open to the GM and the specific campaign?
I was just wondering, because it is a christian rpg and not necessarily Catholic. Are there any anticatholic biases?
Looks pretty interesting at any rate. Hope you guys work it out.

Melissa,
Thanks a lot for the suggestion. I will check that site out. Acutally I am in a game on a similar site at www.rpol.net. Your input is very appreciated.

Personally I use OpenRPG, which is a real-time online chat-based system with built-in "dice" rolls, character sheets, and minitures/combat grid support.
