The principle is the same is it not? Or is it a convenient cop-out for gun rightists who think no authority should take however powerful a weapon they have away from them?

The only thing that needed controlling in Connecticut was a single, troubled loner who had an angry confrontation with school officials the day before the massacre. The confrontation was apparently not reported by the school. This is rhetorical, but could reporting, investigating and possibly detaining the young man have prevented this?

Statisticians seem to point to the fact that there are many, many individuals who would have no problem pulling a trigger for purposes other than self-protection. And with 300,000,000 guns out there, given enough ammunition, everyone in the U.S. can virtually be eliminated within a very short time by a small percentage.

How in the wide wide world of sports would the Cristero's have fought an oppressive govt in Mexico if they had surrendered their firearms already ?

Viva Cristo Rey.

Mexico
All of Eastern Europe
Parts of western europe
Russia
China

In the last 100 years have all turned violently against their own citizens, particularly ones of faith. Upon what do those who insist ours would never do that base their claim ?

When we hear some common sense it will be the first time.

I was truly surprised to read that Bob Casey said he will vote for the ban. He must believe that the cities will carry him through. He did win reelection last year by nine points, but this won't make him any more popular in my area.

Actually Columbine was a gun free zone. We all remember how that worked out.

The similar principle for both the individual and the State is the right of self defense.
Moreover, this authority for declaring war resides, according to common opinion, in all rulers, and in nations, who in temporal affairs have no superior, ... Note, nevertheless, that this authority is not requisite for defensive war, but only for offensive; for it is lawful for everyone to defend himself, whether he be a ruler or a private citizen, but to declare war, or to invade the territory of an enemy, is lawful only for the supreme head. (St. Bellarmine)

Good golly, hyperbole and wild speculation much? This smacks of simple fear-mongering to me.

Did God issue 20 more commandments for the faithful to follow and the wicked to ignore?

Maybe but it's the same fear-mongering perhaps that banned not only guns at airports and certain public events but any potential weapon. Just saying.
