Miers promises Leahy to be independent

I don't know if Leahy is telling the truth here but he says Miers will not let anyone influence her votes. Does that mean Bush too? What about all his promises that he knows how she will vote for the next 20 years! Like we all know those promises mean as much as Bush's promise to appoint another Scalia or Thomas to the Court - nothing.
