Thumbs up Katrina Quandary...The world still hates us

The world does indeed hate us no matter what we do. My first thought was "When O when will the Boomer generation die off?" But then I remembered that Jesus knew we would be hated always and for whatever reason the world could conjur up.

They still hate us. We must be doing something right.

"The Boston Globe columnist James Carroll doesn't go that far, but he agrees that "when religiously sponsored good works supply essential needs in place of government responses, something essential to democracy is at stake. … Citizens in a democracy, after all, are the owners of government; therefore government help is a form of self-help."

Gregory,

So when you mention the "Boomer generation" are you referring to the Baby Boomers or someone else?

That is disgusting. I bet these suspicious individuals condemning the help of Christians were so grateful, however, to receive the condoms from Planned Parenthood. They surely had no ulterior motives. At any rate, pray, pray, and pray harder for those poor deluded souls. And be amazed and thankful that even Ted Kennedy was endorsing helping out private schools in the wake of this disaster.

Dafalax:

Remember - The world hated our Lord before us. their hating us should just remind us who we belong to.

I'd be worried if they didn't hate us. That would mean we no longer belonged to our Lord but to the world they belong to.

Given the alternative, we should learn to revel in their hatred. That's what the early Christians did. It means we're close enough to our Lord Jesus to be worthy of it.

And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed. John 3:19-20. NAB.

"If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you.

Remember the word I spoke to you, 'No slave is greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. And they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know the one who sent me." John 15:18-21 NAB.

Let them hate all they want. We need to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus (Remember what happened to St. Peter when he took them off Jesus) and to pray for these people and their salvation.

In Christ, Michael

George,

The reason I reacted on my post about your statement....is because your statement is a bit over the edge. You cannot believe that the US as a country is living a life according to the life of Jesus Christ. You must be kidding. And you believe that is the reason why other 'hate' the US. Pleae. Maybe you live the life of JC and suffer for it, but this is not so for your country as a whole!

Let me quote what Jay Leno said: With all the natural disasters happening around the world, with the bombings going on endlessly, is this the right time to take the name of God out of the pledge of allegiance?

And this says it all....that is why I reacted to such a wrongful statment...

Shoshana,

I don't believe you read the linked article. You have not responded to my post at all. I don't think I know anyone who believes that the US is a Christian nation except for some of my naive students.

Read the article. BTW My name isn't George.

Yes, I did read the article. I am sorry that I called you George...I realized my mistake too late...

Yes, maybe I misread your blurb...you saidthey hate 'us' meaning Christians. I thought you meant the US. Forgive me...

Not to worry.

The article points out both the readiness of Christian groups to give and the perverse criticism we Christians receive for giving.

In a wonderful way the persecution demonstrates that we are following Christ who said that we would be hated for our love for Him.

As you saw in a later post, Dan's statement wasn't about international hatred of America - That's another topic and one I could discuss if you wish. He was talking about the world's hatred of Christians.

You might want to try to address that and discuss how we Christians might want to respond to the unprovoked hatred that's directed at us.

In Christ, Michael

Thank You.

I think it's the only one that makes sense given the world's intractible hatred of Christians and what Our Lord had to say about it.
