Default Ed and Lorraine Warren

i just watched The Conjuring last night, and i'm so glad with people like Ed and Lorraine Warren, who, at least, can break the arguments of the atheists: God does exist

does anyone interested to discuss anything about them in here (their life-journey, their cases, their greatest achievements, etc)?

btw, if anyone who doesn't know them yet:

Lorraine is a psychic medium.
I thought the Church did not look fondly upon such?

I just keep in mind they made their living from "paranormal research". There is more money in telling people what they think they want to hear than there is in just giving people cold hard facts.

I mean people are head over heels interested in supernatural stuff, and there are people who are eager to exploit that. Look at all the ghost hunter type TV shows. For example, I watched one where the home owners pretended to be scared to even be in the house, and come to find that in real life they operate the home as a haunted bed&breakfast place, allowing "ghost" curious people to stay over and experience the "haunting" (which was almost certainly contrived).

so you're saying that they blow up the story a bit or something? or they, like, "selling" their paranormal skill?

They could be but why watch these kinds of folks. The Church already has answered this question and besides remember:
Leviticus 20:6
“If a person turns to mediums and necromancers, whoring after them, I will set my face against that person and will cut him off from among his people.

Leviticus 19:31
“Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God.

It seems to me, after seeing "The Conjuring" and subsequently reading the book The Demonologist," that the Warrens were using their gifts strictly to help those who were suffering from diabolical attacks. From what they relate in the book, there were many people experiencing "hauntings" and they tried to use their knowledge and gifts to discern the ultimate cause of the trouble, educate the afflicted party, and, if necessary, possible, and permitted by the Church, help eliminate the demonic source of the problem.

It doesn't seem that this is the same thing as "using a medium" because they were (at least ostensibly), using their own gifts to do God's will in fighting the forces of evil. It would be another matter if they were sitting at home conjuring up demons or spirits to tell them where they could get their next paycheck.

I do admit that some of the stories I've read seem to indicate that the Warrens were frauds, and I'm curious if anyone within the Magisterium can confirm or deny their legitimacy.

I'd also like to hear some official Catholic Answers response to the claims of Ed and Lorraine Warren.

This is a reply to a question about if there was any harm in Ghost hunting?
We need to ask oneself why do I want to hunt for the Ghost? If it only for a thrill don't do it take up sky diving. Remember whatever you are chasing is coming after you. Go to the blessed sacrament, remain in a state of grace.
If you encounter a Ghost make the sign of the cross, and pray for that soul. On TV we see a very entertaining picture. Calling out a spirit with a aire of bravado is foolishness.

Read your Bible
Read The Demonologist : the amazing carrer of Ed and Lorraine Warren
review recordings of Father Fortea on demonology

Don't invite a spirit - never open the door
If you are Catholic Pray the Rosary Padre Pio said it is the weapon

Ed and Lorraine Warren are devout catholics, Lorraine had relics of Padre Pio she would carry with her. There is record of Padre Pio apparition during the Amytiville Investigation.
Pray to Padre Pio use your gift to serve Jesus.

The Conjuring is a very good horror movie based on true people, happenings and events. It shows us truly there are such things as demons and demonic possessions. My opinion on Ed and Lorraine Warren is mostly good. As far as I know about them, they love their Catholic faith and they have helped the Church investigate cases of hauntings and possessions countless of times. A lot of Catholics do have trouble with Lorraine being "psychic". As far as I know about her abilities, it just comes naturally to her. I've read many books about them and their cases and Lorraine has never tried to fortune tell and involve herself in necromancy. She does use her natural abilities to sense evil spirits and make a case to the Church for an exorcism. I think they are very pro-Catholic, the movie "The Conjuring", from the beginning of the movie gives credit to the Catholic Church as being the leading authority of battling demonic activity. Also their books mention Catholicism quite a bit in their past cases including the famous Amityville Horror, where she uses a relic as a protective device, a crucifix if I recall correctly, from Padre Pio during the investigation. If you want real scares, read their books of past cases, it's better than a Stephen King novel, because it's real.
