Default Anyone heard of "diversity chronicles.wordpress"?

One of my kids asked me about an article from "Diversity Chronicles.wordpress", that a friend posted on their FB page. She thought it sounded....odd, but wanted to know if I thought it was factual. OMG! Here is the opening salvo: "POPE FRANCIS CONDEMNS RACISM AND DECLARES THAT “ALL RELIGIONS ARE TRUE” AT HISTORIC THIRD VATICAN COUNCIL". Does anyone know anything about the background of this "author"? He lists a lot of "stuff" in this one fairly short article.

This is from the diversity chronicles website:
Quote:
The original content on this blog is largely satirical.

“I ceased in the year 1764 to believe that one can convince one’s opponents with arguments printed in books. It is not to do that, therefore, that I have taken up my pen, but merely so as to annoy them, and to bestow strength and courage on those on our own side, and to make it known to the others that they have not convinced us.” – Georg Christoph Lichtenberg.

It is in the spirit of the above quote that I write. Who am I you may ask? My name is Erik Thorson. I created this blog for my own personal amusement.

Well, since there hasn't even been a third Vatican Council yet, that should be the first clue that this is meant as a joke or at least satire.

EDIT: Just saw Incomplete's post. Yep. It's satire.

The inability of several readers to recognize a blatant satire when they see it is, to put it mildly, distressing.

We seem to be losing the ability to see the world except in black and white.

I heard of the website only because a surprising number of gullible people are posting the Vatican III story on social media. It's really shocking. Maybe I was living in a bubble where the general educated public is fairly familiar with the tone of the Vatican and Church teaching and wouldn't fall for stuff like that. I'm reminded of Jeopardy whenever the topic is Christianity. Otherwise extremely intelligent know-it-alls don't seem to know things I expect my Confirmation class to know.

Snopes regarding this spoof -- also the the author has a short disclaimer on the site.

I have to admit--I nearly fell for it until I saw "third Vatican council." Sad thing is, that story is spreading like wildfire on social media by people looking to twist the Holy Father's words.

you can't just say something and not verify it.
I knew it was false when I could not verify any of it.
