Default The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe: Chapter 12

Today, we read Chapter 12, Peter's First Battle.

Peter and the others were extremely nervous to meet Aslan. Aslan supposed to be a representation of Christ. If you had the chance to meet Jesus in person, face-to-face, how nervous do you think you'd be? What would you want to talk about?

I don't think I would be nervous (I could be wrong), but I think of him as my friend, the Sacred Heart, Divine Mercy, my older brother, who loved me enough to die for me on the cross. I would want to talk to him about my family, those who have strayed from the faith and ask him to send the Holy Spirit to help them. I would want to hear what he had to say to me; and learn what he wanted me to do next with my life and just enjoy being in his presence.

The way the children initially respond reminds me of the OT type of awe which was felt toward God. The idea that if you saw God you would die. However, the way they experience Aslan when they met him was more like the NT respnse when people met Jesus - peace & love.

I would basically agree with this and would hope that my response would be to cry with joy.

One particular point in this chapter that struck me was Peter's response when Aslan asked where "the fourth" was. His statement that Edmund wasn't there at least partly because of the way he had treated him, I felt, was a great reflecting point on our personal responsibility in pushing people away from God by the way we treat them. Every time we "sow a weed" rather than a "flower" with unkind words, we diminish the peace that the Body of Christ should be "planting" and create division. Aslan's reaction in neither condemning or encouraging was also about what I would expect....that God will allow us to recognize those times where we failed to be "channels of His peace". I tend to think that that is what purgatory is all about.

Peace,
