Are there any Protestants that abstain from pork?

I know the church I came out of for the most part does. It doesn't require it's members to abastain but the pastor and his wife do. I was charismatic/pentecostal.

If you go buy The Makers Diet from a book store, the author gives you good scientific reasons for abstaining if you are thinking about it.

All's I know are Messianic Jews and Seventh-Day Adventists, who are quite against Pork because of the old laws...

I know a couple of people at work who won't eat pork, but they are tight-lipped about their theology.

Since I have limited funds and limited time, can you just tell us what these scientific reasons are?

I tend to shy away from pork just because pigs disgust me! One of my best friends is Jewish (reformed) and she loves the stuff.

But I digress.........

My friend grew up in the World Wide Church of God religion and they had rules against pork & shellfish. I believe her church, having become much more mainstream, has backed away from those beliefs but she continues to avoid pork & shellfish because she personally believes God must've had a good reason to ask the Jews not to eat those foods.

I try not to eat pork, not for religious reasons, but because I personally think it's disgusting, although I do have ham and bacon once in a while. Health = good and is also good for your spiritual development.

2,000 years ago, I believe there were good reasons. It was a lot tougher to be sure if food was fully cooked, and free from disease. However, as our cooking methods got better, I don't think there's much difference from eating any meats. But I still avoid it.

In other words--virtually any Protestant group which places a heavy emphasis upon the Old Testament and/or which seeks some sort of biological kinship with ancient Israel.

Some of the Yahwistic groups are sort of insular and difficult to interact with. Those who belong to CI would not share their views with outsiders they did not trust, especially if you are not of an acceptable 'race'. Same if they are Afro-Israelites. You'd be most likely to bump into members of one of those in the 'de-ee--ee-p' South. British Israelism has virtually died out I'm told.

*GASP* BLASPHEMY!!

Pigs are one of the most cutest creatures God has ever made. I do like pork, but as a vegetarian I'm protecting myself from the factory farming that is so widespread for the masses.

Personally, I think that pigs are cute! ^___^

My Protestant uncle started his own church. He is a member of the non-denominational denomination. He eats NO pork but does consume great quantities of beer and smokes countless cancer sticks. He does not go to chruch on Sunday's either since in his denomination church attendance is not required nor is it encouraged. You just have to read from the Bible and refrain from pork.

Oh yea, he is the only member of his denomination so I guess he's his own preacher too?

Pigs naturally retain toxins in their flesh. They are scavengers by nature, so nasty toxins ingested by eating dead, diseased carcasses or whatever they find become naturally ingrained in the pig. Not to mention the fact that the pig flesh you buy in the stores (unless it is organic) has had chemicals and preservatives added that nature did not intend.

Of course, all this ends up in the human body when ingested and can cause real health problems. Plus, I find it pretty nasty stuff to eat

. Pork is the unhealthiest meat you can eat. I don't let my kids eat it. If they want to eat meat, I give them Turkey or Chicken - preferably turkey because it is the healthiest with least adverse affects on the body.

There's a book called "What the Bible says about Healthy Living" which goes into detail about the Jewish dietary laws and other mentions of food in the Bible and the relevance for us today. You have to consider that if God commanded the Israelites to not eat pork, there's a good reason for it.

I became vegetarian a year and a half ago and have felt much better - no persistent colds or chronic tiredness.
