I'm crazy!
I know that the Eucharist is made ONLY of flour and water.
I don't know why I did this but I tasted flour at my apartment to see and it did taste like the Eucharist! Am I crazy or what? LOL!
I guess that can be good too because now I can discern tastes to make sure that no other ingredients are being added!

Re: I'm crazy!
Just make sure it's wheat flour;-)
Maybe you have a vocation to prepare homemade unleavened bread for special masses .
When I was working at the Catholic Campus Ministry, I often vented to my mom and boyfriend (now fiance) about the liberalness of our priest.
Mom dreamt that he started using oreo cookies for hosts, and my fiance dreamt he started using cereal for the Eucharist, and has since coined the term "eucharistios."
Thankfully, it never got that bad, and the priest promoted the Real Presence despite having other questionable theology.

Wheat flour? Where? At home? HUH???
Yes, could be. That way I can tell the differences between unleavened bread and added ingredients and if I find out other ingredients have been added, I will slap the person who added 'em on the face!

Paris,
Well now, let's see, you MAY be crazy, but you are also sweet.

Re: I'm crazy!
It has to be WHEAT flour to be true host material, according to current Church regulations.
This has become problematic for people who have wheat intolerance. The idea is that the person would be able to receive under the other species, but there are an even smaller number of people who have both wheat and alcohol intolerance.
The issue is real, but it affects so few people that it isn't often drawn to the forefront.

Re: I'm crazy!
It's not uncommon, in the Christian East, to have the bread baked at the rectory or by the priest himself. In our tradition, the bread can be leaven but still made in a special way to distinguish it from any other kind of leaven bread. I simply would not be able to buy frozen bread dough and bake it and present it to the priest, still it doesn't work that way.

WHAT?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!
I thought it could be either white OR wheat???
Why do I keep hearing this and that? Why can't we get it right?

Re: I'm crazy!
If you've heard otherwise, perhaps this is a good question for Liturgy and Sacraments. I was under the impression it had to be wheat, though not necessarily whole or unbleached wheat.
Back in the day when my family wasn't aware of the ins and outs of Church regulation, my Girl Scout troop baked "Eucharist bread" for our church... and I KNOW it had more than just flour and water. But boy did it taste GOOD!
Whenever we had it (special occasions like First Communion, Easter, etc...), I'd always offer to help the EMHCs consume the leftover hosts.

Re: I'm crazy!
Paris,
"white" bread is made out of wheat. Wheat, as required by the sacrament, means the actual wheat plant, of which both "white bread" and "wheat bread" is made.
Does that help?

Well, if that's the case, then you might as well just have wheat! Why do we have to make it so complicated?
