Alito's confirmation is a blessing and an important battle has been won. The war is not over yet but we're winning. Keep praying and doing good works.

AMEN - We've a long way to go indeed but we are slowly winning each little battle along the way.

My theory on the fillibuster calls is that the Democrats needed to play for the MoveOn/ACT/Daily Kos wing of the party, as the "Internet" wing now raises a lot of money for them. They knew they did not have the votes and that an actual fillibuster would have been disasterous for them politically. So it was a bit of a put up job.

I am growing tired of these Democrats who call themselves Catholic but whol heartidly defend abortion or big corporations over life and the common man.

The Church needs to reel them in. sorry to sound harsh.

She is running for president and her strong security stance is unpopular with the left wing of the Democratic Party. As the left now has a lot of fund raising juice (thanks to the Internet) she needed to throw them something. And I think it was known that a fillibuster would fail, and that the purpose was just to give cover to certain Democratic Senators under pressure from the left.

Yes I agree, but it must start with our bishops and cardinals. They should not be wishy-washy when it comes to Catholic "Pro-Choice" politicians. Kerry should have been denied communion when he went to receive during his campaign for president.

I am a Democrat and proud of it. But I am a Democrat who supports Social, Economic and Environmental responsibility which includes the preservation of life at all costs.

oops it sent for some reason before I finished.

But I was going to say is that I will not support some one like Bush who has done nothing to embrace human life. He panders to it but has done nothing with regards to really limiting abortions not only in law but social and economic issues.

He started with the Supreme Court, that is a start. Hopefully these conservative judges will overturn R v W.
