Default Mouse Hand

Does anyone else get "mouse hand"? That is to say, does the hand you use to control the mouse feel extraordinarilly colder than your other hand after an extended period of time on the computer? And is this an official term or just something my bother thought up?

Holy "mouse hand" batman! His right hand is cold, clammy, and blue, but his left hand is perfectly normal.

You see Robin, when the hand is in constant use for hours on end controlling a mouse the blood rushes out of the hand, thus, decreasing the circulation to that hand and creating a cold, clammy, and blue sensation.

Yep, I get it too. I don't know if there's an "official" name for it. I think it's just because we hold our hand in approximately the same position for so long, and it's an upward position so the circulation doesn't get down to that hand as easily.

Didi,

Check out my little Batman & Robin explanation which I was editting on to my post when you were posting. You probably didn't see it. You'll be happy to know that Batman agrees with you.

Yup I've had that before.

I also got "mouse shoulder" when I became addicted to one of my daughter's computer games. It took me a while to put it together. I went to the doctor because I couldn't figure out why I was having such sharp pains in my should blade and neck. She figured I pulled a muscle and gave me muscle relaxers. I was off the computer for several days and the got back on and it came back. Then I realized it was the pain was on the same side as the hand I use to control the mouse. I think I've built up the muscles I use to control the mouse because it doesn't happen anymore.

The hand thing though will still happen if I'm playing a game where you can't take a break from using the mouse for long period. A rolled up towel under the wrist helps. It keep your wrist from being bent upward which must cause the bad circulation. I believe they sell mouse pad now with a "wrist rest" built in.

I've been using my left hand for the mouse because my right hand (predominant) already gets put in awkward and stressful positions at work.
When I use the computer more than about fifteen minutes my eyes start "bugging out". That tells me I'm not made for long extents on the computer. Books, trees, birds, and other people are much easier and more pleasing to look at and be around.

Thumbs up Re: Mouse Hand

YES YES YES! I thought I was the ONLY person who had this problem. Then, I Googled "cold mouse hand" and "mouse hand warmer" to find out that there are actually products on the market to relieve this condition! Well, I doubt it's a condition. I think it's just a COLD MOUSE HAND from being exposed. I sit for hours working in Photoshop. It's my job! I can't stop working because my mouse hand gets cold, so I started buying different products to see if it would help. Most of the gadgets are junk. Not worth the money. Then, I found a MOUSE BLANKET! It's called the Mouse Hand Warmer! hahahaha...... it's available through the manufacturer, or amazon and other small merchant sites. I have not seen it in the stores yet. Here's a photo of it off a blog:

There's a blog called MouseHandWarmer.com for more details if you are inerested. It really works! : )
