Default Did rainbows exist before the Great Flood?

Simple enough question. Were there rainbows before God's covenant with Noah?

You will have to ask God if He set them in the sky before He rid the earth of all evil and wickedness.

I think you have some bigger fish to fry given your self-professed religion of Occultist.

Rainbows are natural phenomena, under the laws of physics and optics. We can assume they have been naturally occurring on this planet since its inception, but we of course cannot prove that since we weren't there.

Why does this matter? What is your real question?

I don't know the answer to this but it is a lovely thought. It does appear that there are amazing elements to Creation that only seem to exist for the benefit of consoling us humans.

It doesn't matter if there were rainbows before the flood. What matters is that God chose it as the symbol of his covenant with Noah. The Western world understands that the rainbow has something to do with the Bible and with peace.

It is likely that rainbows existed "from the Beginning," whenever conditions were right. However, they would not have been a sign to humans at that time.

(Obviously God, Who exists outside time/space in Eternity, would have known that they were going to become a sign.)

Total internal reflection, dispersion, raindrops, and sunlight.
As long we had these, we had rainbows.

No real question intended, just an opportunity for the OP to demonstrate how clever he is.

To further add the the symbolism of the rainbow in the story of Noah:

It is said that the reason the rainbow was chosen as the sign by God is that the arch of the rainbow meeting with the land or clouds looks like a bow from a bow and arrow placed down. It is the sign that God has laid down his bow, the sign of humanity's destruction, and will not use it.

Just so you're not thinking that the OP's question is out of nowhere, there are some that say that after the flood was the first time there was a rainbow. Now they understand that rainbows are a physical process. So to square the last two statements they make the bold claim that there was no significant rain until the flood. No heavy rain means no rainbows.

Here's an example of that type of thinking. I think I need to lie down

The question is taking the minutiae to literalistically.

Rainbows happen. The flood didn't.
