Default Re: Porn Addiction Eroding at my Soul

My friend and brother. Most of us males deal with some form of porn dependency early in our life. The best way to deal with this is in fact to stay away from that which causes you to view the porn. If it is the TV, watch only channels that don't show this. Given the fact that TV nowadays is filled with sexual themes and immoral clothing it is probably better for you to just turn it off and get busy with some school work or reading something good and productive. If it is the internet, just visit CAF more often and spend more time here instead of browsing all over the web where you shouldn't be. When you avoid sin it is harder to get in trouble. Be smart you know where the sin comes at you, so just flee from these places. Put your trust in Our Lord to help you. Perhaps go for a walk when the desires to look up porn comes in mind or call a friend up to talk, even better you can say a good prayer like the rosary when you have this great temptation attacking you. Try all of this, if you are still having trouble it may be good for you to also go to a psychologist for help. Since you mentioned that a past experience has caused you this trouble.

Most of all just trust in the Lord, think and focus your thoughts on Him when under the temptation to view the porn. God Bless you and help you confront this problem with the courage that you need.

Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.
What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?

Mark 8:36

Undoubtedly, prayer and the sacraments are required.

A good Christian counselor and/or priest who understands the trauma of childhood sexual abuse is needed.

It seems as though the shame of your childhood abuse may be confused with the guilt and confusion of your temptations. A good Christian counselor and/or priest would help you to separate the two.

Eventually, you will need to forgive the abuser. Forgiveness does not require us to trust the ones who have offended us, especially if the offense was childhood abuse. If such individuals do repent from their deviant behaviors, only then can one expect to take the leap of faith in trusting such individuals.

The anger against God and your cousin that are associated with unforgiveness and shame propels temptations. The accompanying despair feeds it. This is why a good Christian counselor and/or priest is needed.

The more we focus on a particular temptation or sin, the greater will be the temptation. We must let go and let God. Remember, 'without Jesus Christ we can do nothing'. Jesus Christ is the victor over our tempations, not you or I. Jesus Christ is the healer of your childhood soul. He loves you greatly. Never stop placing your trust in Him.

The cross you bear is a heavy one. Offer up your prayers in union with all the souls who have been abused as children, and unite them to the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. There are so many precious souls who need your intercessory prayers as imperfect as your prayers may seem.

God bless you and keep you,
and be of good courage.
