Default Goya Pulls Out of New York's Puerto Rican Day Parade

Goya Pulls Out of New York's Puerto Rican Day Parade

http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/2...ay_parade.html

This year, the June 11 parade is honoring Oscar Lopez Rivera, a convicted terrorist whose group, the Armed Forces of National Liberation, or FALN, claimed responsibility for more than 100 bombings across New York, Chicago, Washington and Puerto Rico in the 1970s and early 1980s.

His sentence was commuted by President Barack Obama before he left office. Parade organizers told the AP that they do not condone violence.

[A good friend of mine was SEVERELY injured in one of their bombings. Paralyzed. Never recovered. Died early.]

Perhaps the U.S. ought to grant Rivera's wish and unilaterally declare Puerto Rico independent.

If the parade does not condone violence, Rivera is a strange choice to be honored.

I totally agree with you, but with Puerto Rico some $70 Billion in debt and bankrupt, such a move would undoubtedly be considered raycist and discriminatory. Ironic in that independence for Puerto Rico has had such deep roots on the island for decades.

They're a huge canned goods company that caters to Hispanic consumers' tastes. They're in every supermarket and grocery store where I live.

That's where I've seen the name! Thanks. Should have realized it!

Well you can't be on top of everything. But it is a fairly recognizable brand around these parts. I often buy their black beans (aka frijoles negros).

So...Anglos can't enjoy their products?
https://www.census.gov/topics/popula...ic-origin.html I always supposed that link every time someone mentions hispanics so I can point out that Hispanics are not a race because inevitably someone will compare them to "white" people. I don't know why someone would think it was a good idea to be celebrating a terrorist.

I enjoy thier products, and I'm as anglo as they come. Their canned black beans or garbanzos are a little cheaper but taste as good as any other.

Yep, huge. And much, much more than canned goods. They're in every supermarket and bodega where I live too.

Goya pulling out of parade sponsorship is a very big deal.

Goya - a force to be reckoned with. And I'm not even kidding.

It's a Latin American food company. They sell rice, beans, cookies, seasonings, olive oil. Their slogan is, "Goya, oh boy-a." I've used their products. Their olive oil is good

They have great rice mixes, too.
