I voted "No, but I really wanted to". I was visiting family at Christmas, and attended the Christmas midnight Mass. The Mass was sparsley attended, so many pews were empty. In the next section of pews was a family with a little girl, maybe about three years old (I won't discuss the wisdom of keeping a child that age awake for midnight Mass, since that's not the topic).

Anyway, this little girl started running up and down the aisles, then she started runnning up and down the pews. On one pew, she climbed up onto the seat portion of the pew, and ran up and down that. Then she got down, and started swinging the kneelers up and down, banging them loudly. The whole time she was doing all this, she was talking, laughing, and yelling. Her family members did nothing to stop her. Everyone in the church kept looking at them; even the priest kept looking their way as he tried to make himself heard above the racket.

Finally, finally, one of the family members took the little girl outside. I've heard of "suffer the little children", but really, now!

I'm an usher, so I think it's part of my job. What I had to do was ask that someone consume the Eucharist instead of keepiing it for whatever reason. They had put it in their pocket. I've had to do this twice, different folks, different occasions....

How about chewing gum during Mass and Communion?

For years I shut my mouth or turned my head to noisy, restless children undisciplined by parents, foot tapping pew bumpers, hot lovers and talkies. Recently I broke down before mass and asked an elderly gentleman to stop clinking his keys and change in his pocket during mass.
He said "HUH? YOU WANT ME TO STOP JINGLING MY KEYS? Oh Sure."
I believe the guy was hard of hearing. He never jingled again. I don't believe he could even hear himself doing it.

Once someone took the host and went back to their pew without consuming it. I left my pew and went to that person, insisting that the Eucharist be consumed.

I have had people come to receive the Eucharist who just stood there with their hand out and I told them that the correct response was "Amen"

I have corrected family for talking, but not others. I really do not mind young children, but adults who talk like they were at a ballpark trouble me.

A couple of weeks ago I had a man correct me. I went up to him after mass while he was still in his pew to compliment the deep spirituality that was evident. He sushed me and pointed to the tabernacle. So, I wrote what I wanted to say on a tablet. At first, I felt a little taken-back, but then I appreciated the deep respect he had for Christ's presense in the tabernacle and church!

Honestly if I did something wrong (procedurally) I'd appreciate the correction. I'm amazed people who save the Host for later. Good grief.

We have some restless kids and that can't be helped. So far if a kid really lets loose mom or dad will take them out until they calm down. Thank heavens we don't have any running up and down, banging kneelers etc. I don't know what I'd do about that!

Our music director ALWAYS reminds people to turn off their (#Y#(%&Y#(%&&% cell phones thank heavens. I tend to get almost homocidal when I hear a cell ringing during church. Reminding people helps!

I have never corrected anyone but:

I was once correct in church by an elderly woman who told me after she refused to give me the sign of peace that I should not receive communion because I had a child and was unwed. I was so taken aback I couldn’t even tell her that the child I was with was my youngest brother!

That is so wrong. That woman ought to have known better - assuming the worst like that and acting on it! Appalling.

I've wanted to correct people, but didn't. The girls who wear miniskirts to Mass, an extraordinary minister at my old parish who would carry the dish with the consecrated hosts in one hand, SWINGING it as she walked, the woman who I overheard encouraging her non-Catholic friend to take communion (he didn't). But I always bite my tongue.
