4 indicted in West Virginia chemical spill case

Four former executives of Freedom Industries have been indicted over the 4-Methylcyclohexanemethanol (MCHM) spill that caused a ban on drinking water for hundred of thousands of people in the state in January.

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said in a statement that the tank conditions at Freedom Industries “were not only grievously unacceptable, but unlawful. They put an entire population needlessly at risk. As these actions make clear, such conduct cannot, and will not, be tolerated.”

What happened in West Virginia would have never had happened had the company simply followed the applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards and practices. This incident was easy to prevent.
