We had a responsibility to Vietnamese refugees do to our role in their war. We promised to protect their nation, and then reneged on the commitment. That was very least we could do. We don’t have that responsibility to Syria. There are a lot of wealthy countries in the Middle East that could provide sanctuary to Syrian refugees. We could even provided material assistance to them. But, we have no obligation to take in Syrian refugees like we had to the Vietnamese.

This priest offered to give the citizenship he was given 42 years ago as a refugee to a Syrian refugee, because,as he points out, no one chooses to be a refugee.
