A Prayer For Those Who Live Alone

A Prayer For Those Who Live Alone

I live alone, Dear Lord.

Stay by my side.

In all my daily needs,

Be Thou my guide.

Grant me good health,

For that, indeed, I pray

To carry on my work

From day to day.

Keep pure my mind,

My thoughts, my every deed,

Let me be kind, unselfish,

In my neighbor’s need.

If sickness or an accident befall,

The humbly, Lord, I pray,

Hear Thou my call.

And when I’m feeling low

Or in despair,

Lift up my heart

And help me in my prayer.

I live alone, Dear Lord,

Yet have no fear,

Because I feel Your presence

Ever near. Amen

That is a great prayer. And I agree there is a BIG difference between being alone and being lonely. However there is a flip side to the issue. I live alone and this is what I pray. (It is not as nice and doesn’t rhyme but here it goes)

Dear God,

Thank you when I am in a rush in the morning I don’t have to share a bathroom

Thank you for providing me the means to afford my own place. I never had to marry the wrong guy just to have a roof over my head and I never had to live with someone in sin to save on rent

Thank you that since I am tired, I don`t have to do the dishes out of consideration for my roommate

Thank you that when I save food for the weekend, I don`t worry my roommate will eat it.

Thank you that I can have cats wihtout being thankfull to a roomate

Thank you I no longer have to live with my parents and listen to my dads country music

Thank you there are no fights over house guest

Thank you I don`t have to wait for my turn on the computer on for my TV show

The list is endless

Thank you! I have found there is indeed a difference between living alone … and being lonely. The difference is Jesus.

I have this prayer on a prayer card. It is lovely and so helpful. I do still get lonely from time to time, living alone. When the lonliness hits hard; I offer it to Jesus and all is well once more. I also pray that I won’t make any foolish moves out of lonliness.
I thank God for creating my cat who keeps me from complete physical isolation. He’s a dear, funny cat and he makes me laugh a lot.

Same here. Just watch out. When you start having philosophical debates with your cat, and realize that the cat is keeping up his end of the conversation, you know you are too isolated from humanity …

He always wins the debates.

But seriously, I’ve noticed that we are mentioned in the mass prayer intentions. “Those who live alone…”; “The lonely”…
So I guess it’s a situation in need of much prayer.

RosalieM & Student09- Very funny about your cats…

God is everywhere. I have found being alone has opened a great channel for prayer, reflection, and contemplation. You won’t be lonely with Jesus and the saints. Quiet time fosters depth in thinking. And reduced distractions. How lucky to discover the benefit of quietude. Peace to those who are living alone. You know what I am talking about.

This is beautiful. I love this! Although I live alone yet am not lonely, this prayer is still very comforting. Bless you for posting. Came at a time where my heart feels weak (no family nearby).
