A question regarding Confession

Hello, i have been wondering about this question for awhile now and it is regarding what sins or type of sins must we confess? Do we only have to confess mortal sins or every sin? I just got back from confession and i asked the priest and he said confession is for every sin no matter the type. Is this correct? I only confessed my mortal sins as well because i suffer from scruples and i get into confessing venial sins i never committed just to be “sure”. Thank you for your answers and advice!

I think the priest meant it can be *beneficial *to confess venial sins. We are only required to confess mortal ones.
