Main Page Viewing Options
So there are a few different ways to navigate through the new forum. This is one of the things that might take the most getting used to. Let us look at each one.
The default view when you go to forums.catholic.com is the “Latest”. This displays all the topics with the most recent activity, starting with the most recent at the top.
This view will show the most active topics of today starting with the most active. This view is not chronological but rather by order of interest. So if you like fast-moving topics, jump in.
Note, you can also click the arrow by today’s date to change the view to “week”, “month”, “quarter”, or “year”, which will enable you to view the most popular topics in those time frames.
The new view is similar to latest, but with the difference that it is the most recent new threads. The number in quotation marks afterwards indicates the number of new topics that have been started since your last visit.
This is my starting point as it lists all the threads you are watching or tracking that have new posts. The number in parentheses indicates how many topics are there with unread posts.
As I stated in a previous post, this is the view that most closely aligns with the previous version of CAF. You can see all the different categories with the three most recently active topics listed off to the side.
A Few Things to Note
When perusing through the various views (at least on a desktop), you will see something like this:
The picture icons of the individual posters aren’t just for show. The avatar on the left is the original poster and the avatar on the right is the most recent poster, with those in the middle being the most frequent posters in the topic (besides the OP and the most recent). If the OP is the most recent poster, that is denoted by a blue aura around the avatar.
So as you become familiar with the avatars different posters use, you can see quickly who started the topic and who is posting in it a lot. Of course, you can always hover over the avatar to see the user’s name pop up.
