A Victim Treats His Mugger Right

Here is an example of how being kind can overcome evil. Enjoy.

A great story. And courage…

Possibly the most awesome thing I’ve read today.

God bless him.

What a kind and godly soul.
THAT is mercy. Mercy triumphing over justice.
I think most of us would have had the criminal arrested.
I hope that that would-be armed robber turns to the LORD.
And may Mr. Diaz receive a mansion in heaven for his kindness.

For the conversion of the armed robber:

O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus
as a fount of mercy for us, I trust in You.

Eternal Father, I offer thee The Most Holy Face of thy Divine Son Jesus
for the conversion of the dangerous young man who tried to rob Mr. Diaz. AMEN.

Eternal Father, I offer thee The Most Holy Face of thy Divine Son Jesus
for the salvation and prosperity of Mr. Diaz. AMEN.

Im glad it turned out well, but it was a dangerous, foolish thing to do.

That really is amazing, going to send this on.

All I can say is … " Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow …"

**Im glad it turned out well, but it was a dangerous, foolish thing to do. **

Actually, no it wasn’t.
What WOULD have been dangerous and foolish
would be for Mr. Diaz to have asserted machismo and start
fighting with the knife wielding thug. THAT could have gotten him
fatally stabbed or permanently disfigured at the very least.
The punk ALREADY had his wallet, so all he did was chat with him.
He just may have saved that robber’s soul or greatly contributed to it, anyway.

And one could say the same thing about The Eternal Word deciding
to save sinful mankind. That was definitely a dangerous thing to do.
It got him brutally tortured and murdered.
And we all benefit from HIS mercy and generosity.
But very few people are, to the extent of Mr. Diaz, willing to extend that
mercy to others. WE always demand “justice” for those who harm us.
I know. I do too. Until later, when I start praying for whoever wronged me.
It’s not easy to do that. Mr. Diaz did it. God love and reward him.

Love to you all,

I really hope this has an affect on the teen. So many young men in our inner-cities are raised without a father or positive male role model of any sort. It seems that without that influence they end up spending their lives on the streets or in prison.

And to him that striketh thee on the one cheek, offer also the other. And him that taketh away from thee thy cloak, forbid not to take thy coat also.

Amazing. I hope the young thief changed his ways.

**Amazing. I hope the young thief changed his ways. **

You know,
if all of us here say a HAIL MARY for that thief everyday,
he probably WILL, by the Grace of God and the prayers of the Mother of God.

For the knife wielding thief to convert:
Hail Mary, Full of Grace, the LORD is with thee.
Blessed art Thou amongst women,
and Blessed is the fruit of thy womb: JESUS.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners
((including the knife wielding thief who robbed Mr. Diaz)),
now and at the Hour of our death.

Great story.
It is instances like these that make me reconsider my pessimistic attitudes towards this fallen world.

I think one of the factors that made the story turn out the way it did is the fact that the gentleman was a social worker.
Not only was he a decent human being and an (apparently) godly man, he also knew how to deal with people beforehand.

Awesome thread. Through the Prayers of the Mother of God, have mercy on us and save us. Amen.:signofcross:

Just because there are other foolish things to do dosnt mean that what he did was a good idea.

And all encouraging a Jesus complex does is get one to Jesus faster…or not.

Its too bad pepper spay is practically illegal in NYC. The guy did something foolish. 1) he was fortunate that the kid didnt try to pull something when his guard was down. 2) he was lucky that this kid didnt have backup. 3) he was lucky the kid or the backup didnt “have to” randomlly kill him as part of a gang intiation. 4) he is fortunate he hasnt been targeted for what he did.

While I must acknowledge what he did had a happy ending I would go balistic on any man in my life who was idiotic enough to do such a thing.

I don’t think it was foolish. The kid was already turning away, so Mr Diaz knew he had no violent plans to kill him. He’s a social worker, so he probably had a good sense of what kind of person he was talking to and what would work.
I think it was brilliant, and thoroughly Christian.

I disagree. Many of these young men aren’t exactly brought up in the best of circumstances- poverty, no family, educational problems…many of them turn to gangs to replace their absent fathers and make them feel wanted, or at least turn to crime in desperation for money and also street-cred.

a lot of the time all these young men need is someone to listen to them and make them realize that the world does have some good in it, and that they’re valued. There’s many an inner city social club or program which aims to do this very thing by making these young people work for goals they can be proud of as part of a group and without violence- a prime example of this is the Guitars, Not Guns programme which aims to teach young teens and children the guitar and get them into music groups and away from gangs.

This man took the risk only after weighing up all the costs and risks involved. And the benefit to this young man is uncountable.

Very nice story, but it sounds like the fairy tales I read my children at night. I don’t suppose NPR did any verification of facts before posting it.
