Abused Catholics and Cognitive Dissonance

If there are Catholics out there who have been abused by clergy, how do you deal with simultaneously living the Church but hating the perpetrator?

Hate the sin but not the sinner. Survivors need professional help to deal with it. It’s too difficult alone.

It’s all part of the healing and forgiveness process. We are called to forgive.
Remember that story of the guy who was excused his debt, then went outside and beat up the person who owed him money. Then he was brought back in and thrown in jail and punished. He did not show another the same compassion shown him

This parable is about forgiveness, it’s about forgiving the sinner. It’s in the Lords Prayer

Forgive us our debts as we forgive others.

By the Grace of God and remembering “forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.”
