Adam and Eve and original sin a myth?

During RCIA class, the priest had said that Adam & Eve never existed, and that their names are merely “man” & “woman” in ancient Hebrew.

Is this the correct teaching of the Roman Catholic Church? Wouldn’t this mean there was no Original Sin? The class has since ended so I can not reply personally, thank you.
