Advent Wreath

I understand that the Advent wreath is not a part of the liturgy and its use in churches is optional, but given that it has become such a prominent part of churches today for the season, I have a question, or two~

I attended a church this advent that placed a white candle in the center of the wreath - at the Christmas Masses (Vigil and forward) this white candle was lit with all the other candles in the wreath.

What is the point of having a white candle, supposedly representing Christ’s presence, in the midst of other candles representing our anticipation of His arrival?

I was at the Mass for the Holy Family this weekend and the wreath was still on display and the candles lit. So just what is a wreath supposed to represent?

Our parish’s wreath was removed as Advent is over.
