An Icon of Forgiveness--Account of the Impact of St. Maria Goretti When Her Remains Come to the United States

From my perspective (though vastly limited), it seems like people know and understand the fact that she died to protect her chastity but gloss over the fact that she died forgiving her attacker and wanting his salvation (a common thread of the Saints appears to is the desire of salvation and redemption of their enemies and persecutors).

If only more people emphasized and focused on the latter (while also recognizing and acknowledging the former). Chasity is critical but mercy and forgiveness can also be healing and cathartic for many. We need all three (and so much more).

Happy October.
