Another Ash Wednesday question

#1

Why is Ash Wednesday on Wednesday? Was it always on Wednesday? Did it have a different name years ago?

40 days of Lent, counting back from Easter (which is always a Sunday of course), not including Lenten Sundays (Sundays are never penitential days) … always gives you a starting day of Wednesday. Basic math.

I knew that. That was a very dumb question but then yesterday was a very, very long day. Thanks for the info!
