Another Slave To Pornography

#1

Greetings…

**The temptations are strong for me tonight… just as they are each and every night. **

I’ve lost many a battle as of late… and grow weak as I thirst for even a small victory.

I do not do this out of desire… but habit. I lust only for love and companionship… but Satan fills my lonely heart with this.
These things bring an artificial feeling of contentment… but always follow with a sense of fear… guilt… depression… and filth.

There was a time when I’d praise God for my not being an alcoholic… or a drug addict… or a smoker… but I’m not sure this addiction is any better… and actually, it’s probably worse, given that it’s almost entirely secretive, but extremely destructive.

Oh… and for the many others whom suffer as I do… take peace in knowing you’re not alone in this. This night, we stand together against a common enemy.

**My someday Catholic brethren… please lift us up in your prayers. **

Pray to Joseph and/or Virgin Mary.

And remember, the times of trial are not a burden upon us but merely show us and God who we are. God must test us and this is why at times He lets satan tempt us. How much we should rejoice at being given the opportunity to show God how unflinching we are concerning our love for Him.

And yet what has pornography ever done for anyone but a few passing moments of bodily joy followed by the spiritual torment of discommunion with God? Only to be tempted by the same hours later? The body never will be satisfied. You already know how to satisfy the spirit.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.
Amen.

Pray every day to the Blessed Virgin. Pray to her whenever you feel this temptation.
She will turn to her Son on your behalf.
He *never *refuses her anything.

Glory be to The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be
World without end

Amen

I’m praying for you, mate

**Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host -
by the Divine Power of God -
cast into hell, satan and all the evil spirits,
who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls.

Amen. **

We made it through the weekend, though I was out of town. I’ve been attacked since coming back, just this afternoon. I’m now in the process of trying to recover, and am coping with that dirty, vile feeling, that tends to cling to people with this sort of habit.

I repented immediately afterwards… but I still felt dazed, and like a failure. This is a weapon of the enemy, I know, but it’s a lot harder to shrug off than some realize.

My reason for falling into it today? I’m going to lean towards stress, feeling the need to relax, and otherwise not having alternate outlets to find comfort (e.g. social groups, etc). This is an area I’m trying to work on (meeting new people, making friends, taking on responsibilities to keep me away from being vulnerable to this kind of sin), but that also, is something easier said than done. I’m generally shy, though when at work, you wouldn’t really know. I’m paid to be personable (tech support), and am able to overcome this barrier. When I’m not at work, however, I tend to be very reserved and afraid to be around people. This hinders my ability to really form friendships and thus find safe harbor from Satan’s attacks.

Sorry for the long ramble…

jasphair,

In addition to our prayers here, I offer the following suggestions. You may have already done some of them, but I take the risk of being redundant.

  1. Any pornographic materials that are in your house should be thrown out. That said, if the source is Cable TV, you may want to disconnect it. The same goes for the internet. If that isn’t practical, find a way to place crucifixes near the TV and/or the computer, and/or any place else where the temptation may come. When you feel tempted, look at that crucifix and meditate on how giving in to the temptation will drive yet another nail into our Lord. I know you love him so that will be a powerful disincentive to giving in to the temptation.

  2. Begin a habit of proactively thinking about all persons, including those whose pictures have fueled your temptation, and think about them as precious children of God whom he created, as the persons for whom Christ died. Think about the pain and suffering they endure (even if they don’t realize it) by virtue of their being exploited by the pornography industry. Think about how they are treated like objects without souls for the selfish pleasure of others. Think about how in some instances they may be trapped into doing what they do by persons who bully them and hold them captive. Think about how any money you might spend on cable programs, magazines, movies, or internet sites wind up inflicting more pain upon them. And then pray for their rescue from their captivity to the pornography industry and/or their greed for money and/or a perverse fame or attention. Remember that love is not lust, and you do not love God anymore than the person you love the least. Again this will be a powerful disincentive to give in to the temptation, because you love God, and so you will want to respect the people in the pornography industry by not adding to their bondage and by not treating them as less than human beings.

  3. Find a friend you can trust who is willing to help you, should you call, in trying to weather the storm of temptation. Or get involved in activities where you are serving others so you have a double bonus of not having time to be tempted while also helping those in need. Or find Catholic programming and turn to that in your moment of temptation. Download good educational Catholic programming onto your ipod and listen to that when you are tempted, especially programming directed at your specific tempation that will help strengthen you in your fight.

  4. Pick up a rosary at the moment the temptation comes, and pray and keep on praying until either the temptation passes or until you literally drop from exhaustion.

  5. Spend time praying on this website for the countless others in need of God’s intervention. You will be too busy to be tempted and you will do a great favor of penance to help others desperately in need.

  6. Use your imagination, perhaps there are other answers that I haven’t thought of. Read Scripture. Find a good devotional. Join a support group. Whatever it takes, be proactive and decide that you will seek God’s grace to fight this thing and then make a determined effort once you have.

Most gracious Father, our brother jasphair is struggling mightily with an addiction to pornography. He knows it and wants to fight it, but finds he is too weak at times. Grant him the grace to know that like the Apostle Paul who prayed to have his proverbial thorn taken away, that when he is weak, then he is strong, because your power is made perfect in his weakness. We all know you hate sin while loving all sinners. Because of this, we beg of you to spare nothing to help jasphair overcome and defeat this evil mennace that threatens to steal his soul and divide him from you for all eternity. Heal his mind and take away the images that reside there that torment him. And grant him to be transformed so that he may love, really love all people according to your word in I Corinthians chapter 13. Father we ask all of these things and anything else you see that he needs in this battle against Satan’s wiles, in the name of Jesus Christ our sure defense, we pray. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and in the hour of our death. Amen.

Praying for you man…

:console: And remember, ultimately it is not so much how you fall that matters but how you get up. Keep seeking Jesus.

You can do this.

I have found this prayer to be extremely helpful in my struggles. May it bring you peace.

St Joseph, father and guardian of virgins,
to whose faithful keeping were entrusted Christ Jesus, innocence itself,
and Mary, the virgin of virgins,
I pray and beseech thee by that twofold and most precious charge,
by Jesus and Mary,
to save us from all uncleanness,
to keep our minds untainted,
our hearts pure,
and our bodies chaste,
and to always serve Jesus and Mary in perfect Chastity.

Amen.

#17

Amen…keep up the good fight…

Hello again everyone,

It just so happens I learned to pray the Rosary yesterday… so tonight… I’m pulling out the big guns!

Take that, Satan!

Join the club, you are not alone. The worst part and the hardest part is that it is accepted as HEALTHY and NORMAL in this secular society and is almost half of the entire internet consists of pornography and it’s all even free now days and even on google! That makes it all the much harder especially when trying to resist temptation and flashy tv ads and even attractive news reporters can make all the difference to fall into sin.

Keep praying, hopefully us men can find a way out of this. I wish I was married it would be so much easier to be held accountable. Being 21 and single and exposed to it everywhere in college makes it even harder! I do certainly hope to have it conquered before being married!

Let us pray for one another.

PATER NOSTER, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie, et dimitte nobis debita nostra sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo. Amen.
