Are Protestants Considered Saved?

(1) I would like to know what is the official teaching regarding Protestants. Does the Catholic Church consider them as saved although they do not believe in the authority of the pope?

(2) In general, what is required, according to Catholic teaching, for a Protestant or anyone else to be saved?

I asked these questions because, unless I am misunderstanding the answers given, Catholic posters in Facebook groups give me answers that are either inconsistent with what other may say or they do not seem to be the offical Catholic teaching.

Thank you.
