Are the Jews still waiting for the Messiah?

I have a Catholic friend who recently spoke with a Rabbi. She was on friendly terms with him and she asked him “So, are you guys (Jews) still waiting for the promised Messiah?” He replied, “No, we pretty much gave up on that.” My jaw really dropped when I heard that. Now, I realize that he was only one Rabbi, but I was just wondering if that was a general feeling among the Jews or an isolated case. Any insight would be appreciated.

This “Rabbi” must’ve been a “Reform”, “Reconstructionist” or even “Conservative” Rabbi. How these people misrepresent our faith (just like they did regarding Terri Schiavo; see forum.catholic.com/showthread.php?p=519380&highlight=wrong#post519380) ! Ugh! http://forum.catholic.com/images/smilies/mad.gif http://forum.catholic.com/images/smilies/ani/ani_banghead3.gif No real (i.e. orthodox) Rabbi worth his salt would ever dare to speak such heresy!

See this old thread: forum.catholic.com/showthread.php?p=233191&highlight=Messiah#post233191.

Be well!

Thanks SSV. I thought it sounded a bit kooky for a Rabbi to say such a thing. I skimmed through the other thread and I noticed there was a quote about the Messiah not being divine. But what about Isaiah 9:6? Just curious… Thanks for your help!

Hi all my 2nd post here Im Frank,

Actuall the Jewish community is now divided , more and more Jews are accepting Jesus Christ, this community calls themselves Messianic Judaism , what is it,

Messianic Judaism is a Biblically-based movement of people who, as committed Jews, believe in Yeshua (Jesus) as the Jewish Messiah of Israel of whom the Jewish Law and Prophets spoke.

What is the diffrence between Christianity and Massianic Jews, nothing only the name.

Hey Frankie!

I’d like to ammend this just a wee.

What is the diffrence between Protestant Christianity and Messianic Jews, nothing only the name.

I was in a Messianic Congregation for about a year before I came home.

Shalom Dear stillsmallvoice:

On what ground, those Jews still reject the messiahship of their own Jewish member - Jesus Christ, and still waiting for?

Did he not fulfill all the criterias that Jews were expecting from him?

Not to rain on anyone’s parade, but (with all dues respect!), I think that this is so much wishful thinking/rationalizing. This is not dividing us (we have lots of other issues that divide us); don’t flatter yourself.

See that old thread (forum.catholic.com/showthread.php?p=233191&highlight=Messiah#post233191) I referred to in my previous post.

“Messianic” Jews are trying to square a circle that can never be squared. One can believe in Judaism or Christianity but not both at the same time, it’s one or the other.

Actually that was my first thought. But my friend clarified it with him and the Rabbi was definately not joking. They are pretty good friends and so I think she would have recognized if he was pulling her leg.
