Are we allowed only one godparent?

My two nephews are being baptized in a Catholic Church. We were told that the pastor is allowing only one God Parent for each child. It is her husband’s brother. Both children will have the same Godparent.

My understand is that a Godparent is one to guide the child in the catholic religion. I have never heard of having only one godparent for two children. These children are not twins one is 3 and the other will be 1.

The following links should help you better understand the Church’s guidelines for being a godparent. If you have any further questions, please contact Catholic Answers directly.
