Ash Wednesday Mass

Is there any response we give after we receive ashes? Also, can anyone direct me to a Church source that indicates this? Thanks so much!

There is no response given in the Missal, following the first principle of rubrics (Say the Black. Do the Red.) there ought not to be one.

There are two things that I can remember that the priest has an option of saying to you when he places the ashes on your forehead:

“Remember, you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

“Turn away from sin and be faithful to the gospel.”

From what I know, you shouldn’t respond to whatever the priest says, just receive and move on.

I know, I know…this probably isn’t the best source of information, but a start for you.
