I think people should totally forget about politics and politicians for one moment. You don’t have to be super rich to own one assault rifle modified to fire full auto to shoot a military type target. I know people who own a variety of weapons for no reasonable purpose and it’s usually a mix like one assault rifle, a shotgun, a handgun and a few others. What? They’re going to shoot a home invader with their semi-auto, a shotgun and a handgun for good measure?
How long is a trained former military person going to hold off a team of more heavily armed military forces? Is he waiting for the ‘government takeover’ scenario where he’s transported to a labor camp as a forced laborer subject to execution if he tries to escape? Will he and his fellow gun owners band together to take down assault helicopters, armored vehicles and drones sent by an unnamed entity to flush them out? Or when his area is flooded with terrorists out to kill Americans?
Where do street gangs get their AK-47s from? What about gun violence in Chicago? To quote a person who lives there: “It’s like somebody just dropped a crate of guns down here and even kids are carrying.” I suspect it was more than one crate.
I suggest some research be done regarding the sources of all weapons owned by people in the US. Not a names directory, just a detailed breakdown of sources, including information from the police and ATF about illegal (not just modified) weapons recovered in drug raids, etc. The Las Vegas shooter had 47 weapons? Really?
How many weapons, what types and what amount of ammunition would make you feel safe? 10,000 rounds? Twice that?
Again, take the politics out of this and try to gain a more well-rounded perspective. I don’t doubt for a second that some intelligence agency has this information already.
