Authoritative quotes on public restitution for public sins

I’m wondering if anyone can assist me in finding authoritative quotes discussing the Catholic principle of a public crime/sin requires public penitence. The word they use might be something like ‘restitution’ rather than ‘penitence’.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Catechism of Trent on the sacrament of penance:

The Church, therefore, with great wisdom ordained that when anyone had committed a public crime, a public penance should be imposed on him, in order that others, being deterred by fear, might more carefully avoid sin in future. This has sometimes been observed even with regard to secret sins of more than usual gravity.
