Ave Maria granted injunction; no penalties for not providing contraceptives

FORT MYERS, Fla. - A federal court has granted Ave Maria University a temporary injunction to avoid millions of dollars in fines if it does not comply with a federal health mandate and provide contraceptive coverage to its employees.

The new law requiring employers to provide contraceptive coverage kicks in Nov. 1 — Saturday.

Under the law, Ave Maria would have been granted an exemption from directly providing the coverage, but its insurer would still be required to offer contraceptive coverage to Ave Maria employees. School leaders believe they would still be complicit in providing the coverage, which they do not agree with on religious grounds.

God bless and help Ave Maria.
